Do you ever wonder what God really wants from you? After all, the Bible is filled with commandments, instructions, and guidelines. Does He expect us to follow all of them perfectly? Scripture certainly highlights the importance of obedience. Take, just as one of many examples, Deuteronomy 10:12-13:
“And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the commandments and statutes of the LORD, which I am commanding you today for your good?”
That’s a lot! And it is just two verses. But, of course, He knows we’re not capable of perfect obedience. So, what then? Maybe the objective is to be as good as we can. Or perhaps God would be satisfied if we could just follow the most important commands. But which ones are those?
This is not a trivial question, because if the Bible is true, then He is coming back, and we will have to stand before Him.
That is a sobering thought!
To help us with this question, Jesus told a parable that could have been ripped from the headlines of His day. A royal figure went into a far country to be crowned king. While he was gone, his subjects made some important decisions. And when the king returned, those decisions had consequences.
Join us this Sunday as we examine this story to remove all doubt about what God is really after from his creation.
