"Potential" Over "the Past"

We tend to believe that past actions are a good predictor of future behavior. And there's a good reason for this. Banks trust credit scores. Employers rely on resumes and references. Hungry customers check Yelp reviews before choosing a restaurant. These records tell a story: what has happened before will likely happen again. But unfortunately, we carry this same principle into our personal relationships with difficult people. How often do we label someone by their past mistakes and decide they’ll never change? When we do this, we forget about the "God factor." God’s past actions, too, are an excellent indicator of his future behavior. He has transformed shepherds into kings, insignificant fishermen into influential followers, and heartless murderers into ministers of the heart. Sure, people are difficult, but they are not disposable. This is exactly what Paul says about Onesimus. The apostle, who was radically changed by God, challenges Philemon to look beyond the past created by a sinner to the future God can create. The question is, can we? Join us this Sunday as we explore how God’s grace redefines how we think about a person's potential. You don’t want to miss it!
